Postpartum Doula Support
A postpartum doula is a trained professional who can offer informational support and care to the entire family after the birth of a new baby. Postpartum doulas have experience in aiding the birthing person in physical and emotional recovery after childbirth, infant feeding, newborn care, and more.
Adjusting to life after the birth of your little one (whether it is your first, second, third, or sixth child) takes some work. As your postpartum doula I provide care that can help ease this transition and set you and your family up for a confident, successful journey through the fourth trimester. I offer compassionate and knowledgeable support that will help you and your family adjust to your changing dynamics and needs. I like to think of my time with postpartum clients as an opportunity to not only assist you while I am in your home with you but set you up for success after I leave.
What can you expect from my postpartum doula support?
Before your birth
After our initial contact, we will arrange a complementarily meet and greet at a local park or café to determine if we are a good fit. If you decide to contract my services I will be available to support you via phone or email during regular contact hours throughout your pregnancy and for up to 12 weeks after. We will meet in your home prior to baby’s arrival in order to get to know each other and discuss details of what you envision your postpartum period to be as well as what our working relationship will look like.
After your birth
If I am not working with you as your birth doula, you will be sure to let me know that your baby has arrived. We will begin working together as previously discussed and our first shift together will include time to share your birth story and get to know your newest addition. At the beginning of each shift together we will recap what your last day or so has looked like and what you feel your needs are at that time. We will use these discussions to guide my time in your home. Some of my duties might include assisting you in post birth recovery, assisting with newborn care, helping to care for an older sibling, preparing nutritious snacks or meals for the family, overnight care, and light housekeeping. This is certainly not an exhaustive list and we can work together to determine the specific type of support that best meets your family’s needs. Additionally, I can offer you referrals for further assistance should you need support beyond my scope.
*Please note that because of family obligations I am only available to offer postpartum doula support in late spring through summer (April-August).
