Breastfeeding Support

La Leche League International

La Leche League is celebrating 60 years of progress! LLL’s mission is to help mothers breastfeed through support, encouragement, and education. Local LLL support groups can be found in Reisterstown, Baltimore, and Frederick.

Carroll Hospital Center’s Breastfeeding Support Group

Carroll Hospital Center’s breastfeeding groups provide encouragement and mother-to-mother support, as well as current breastfeeding information from certified lactation consultants. The daytime group meets weekly on Thursdays, from noon–1pm and an evening breastfeeding support group meets the third Thursday of each month from 6:15-7:15pm.  No registration is required and walk-ins are welcome.

Susanah Smith is a Certified Lactation Counselor through the ALPP and a DONA trained birth doula. She is a friendly, calming, and very knowledgeable presence. She offers prenatal breastfeeding education (both group and private options) as well as in home lactation counseling.

Susanah also hosts a free breastfeeding support group at the Stewartstown Public Library every Friday morning at 10:30.

Birth and Breastfeed with Confidence

Susan Weyer is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant and a Registered Nurse with experience in maternal and infant health settings. She offers in-home lactation consultations and continuous support as well as breastfeeding classes and assistance with breast pump rentals.

Susan also hosts a free breastfeeding support group and the Eldersburg Public Library on Tuesday afternoons at 12:30.

The Birthing Circle

The Birthing Circle is a non-profit organization that offers peer-based support to birthing and young families in the area. The Birthing Circle has local chapters in Carroll, Frederick, Howard, and Montgomery counties with monthly meetings and various events, classes, and discussion groups.

Maryland Families for Safe Birth

Maryland Families for Safe Birth is a grassroots, consumer driven, social welfare organization focused on expanding access to the evidence-based midwifery model of care in all birth settings in Maryland. Maryland Families for Safe Birth is currently focusing on addressing racial disparities in maternity care and increasing access to VBAC in all settings; MFSB is always looking for support.

Jessie Bernstein is a Maryland Licensed Massage Therapist and Board Certified in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork, specializing in oncology and pregnancy/postpartum massage, and infant massage instruction. Jessie’s approach involves coming up with a plan together with her clients to support their unique needs. She’s supported individuals with a variety of health challenges including chronic pain, anxiety, headaches, scar tissue, depression and more. Postpartum Support Group at Sinai Hospital

New babies are hard work! And they change everything. Many women feel stressed, alone, sad, angry, irritable, worried, overwhelmed, sleepless, ‘foggy,’ guilty and/or just not themselves. Join our Postpartum Support Group for a chance to talk about the challenges (and joys) of welcoming a new baby. All members of the community (and their babies) are welcome in this free drop-in support group. We meet every Wednesday, 1:30-3:00 p.m., in the Lactation Resource Center at Sinai Hospital (2401 W. Belvedere Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21215)

Embrace- Pregnancy and Postpartum Support Group

Creating wellness, hope, and connection for people going through the adjustment to parenthood, experiencing emotional and mental health challenges during pregnancy and postpartum. Alicia Barmon (LCPC, ERYT, Ahimsa Therapy) and Iwona Gerner (LGPC, FBM, The Journey Counseling) will be leading a peer-to-peer support group for mental health issues during pregnancy and postpartum.
